Marina worked as a nurse in Gorky, Chechnya. When the apartment where she lived with her husband and four children had suffered extensive damage once more from the struggle that was going on in Chechnya between the Russian leadership and Chechen separatists, Marina decided to leave. She says: "I do not know what was scarier, to stay or go away. Now I'm fine and my kids are doing well. All four had a proper education and I'm the proud granny of two grandchildren."

Learn how Rotterdam after the war has won back his beating heart. This did not happen by copying what once was, but by daring to dream. A good example is the Katendrecht district. Traditionally an area related to the port which was populated first by Chinese and later by pimps and their prostitutes. For a long time this area was a "no go area" and only associated with crime. With typical Rotterdam guts the new residents have created a liveable and safe environment of Katendrecht in cooperation with the local government. Jos can tell you everything about how this ultimately resulted in the neighborhood as it is today. He has planted his roots on Katendrecht and is proud of the resulting safe environment.

He can take you for a horizontal tour of the North Island. He can talk about his projects that promote social cohesion on the island or explain how an 'orgone accumulator' works. In any case, he will give you food for thought. Joe Cillen firmly believes: 'At one time the motor vessel North Island will tear itself from its mooring place and set sail to a heavenly spot'. On the map, the North Island does indeed have the shape of a vessel. With a little fantasy you can imagine that Rotterdam is the shipyard where the Northern Island is anchored like a supertanker. Joe was born in the Belgian town of Paal - an anagram of the utopian island Pala from the novel by Aldous Huxley. In his younger years Joe lived a life full of drugs and alcohol. In that 'previous life' Cillen was a miner, delinquent, smuggler and sailor on the tramp. Later in life Cillen went to the Academy of Fine Arts. Now he's running a gallery on the ground floor of his house. Cillen's imaginative plan for the motor vessel has been a well-kept secret for a long time, only known to the approximately three thousand islanders.

It was founded in 1987, when a group of art students squatted a decommissioned bath house. The experience was short lived but influential as it inspired the need to establish a formal structure, and subsequently B.a.d was founded (Stichting B.a.d – Bad meaning ‘Bath’ in Dutch). As a collaborative, the Foundation has participated in many international exhibitions. In 2001, Foundation B.a.d began a project called 'B.a.d to The Future!' The aim of this project was to secure the premises for long term use, which included finding new partners, renovating the building, and continually rethinking how we function as an artistic organisation. Meet the artists who squatted the building, hear their story and ask them anything. B.a.d has hosted over 400 artists in residence from around the world. They have a large hall and garden, which can be used by members and guests for artistic and social activities. All this makes Foundation B.a.d an enjoyable and pleasant place for artists to work and stay.

Homelessness is usually just the result of a big pile of problems such as debt, addiction, relationship problems, unemployment or problems with physical and / or mental health. "The night shelter of CVD isn’t just providing a place to sleep. It also looks at how you can continue your life in a positive way." Make yourself known as the guest from City Safari at the door and one of the co-workers will pick you up for a tour.

About 200 volunteers, ensure that around 2000 families in Rotterdam are provided with a food package. Without sponsorship, the Food Bank can not exist. Pendrecht is his passion and he knows a lot about the district, both the history and the present days. He describes Pendrecht on his website www.mario-bosch.nl which contains a blog as well (the blog is in Dutch only). Pendrecht was built in the fifties during the rebuilding of Rotterdam, the district has a unique structure designed by town-planner Lotte Stam-Beese. At the time Pendrecht was a model district and the showpiece of Rotterdam, it was intended as a working-class district but with wide streets and much greenery. Due to the restructuring and the changing of the population the district has pretty changed, after a bad time the situation is improving and Pendrecht is again getting popular as a residential area. Apart from newly built houses there are still many original buildings, the unique Saint Bavo Church is indicated to be protected as a monument. Mario is pleased to show the district to visitors and tell them what Pendrecht means for him. The walks are always different and are fit in the visitor’s wishes regarding space of time and specific interests, a coffee break can be included. The guided tours are available in Dutch, English or German.

Studying spirituality gives insight into the nature of the soul, God, time and karma. Brahma Kumaris emphasizes meditation and spiritual education and has developed various educational programs such as the Soul Seminars about Raja Yoga meditation. Furthermore, there are special themes, Positive Thinking, Life Without Stress, Overcoming Anger, Resistance to Fear and Self-Respect, which, in addition to information and mutual exchange, also provides space for silent moments and meditation.
