Rumpelstiltskin visits the Castle on Groundhog Day

Greg Wunz is building a castle with a thousand rooms and in every room there will be a different story. People from all over the land will come to the castle to hear the stories. But they can't just walk into the castle. At the gate of the castle, just across the draw bridge every visitor must write his name in a big book and before he can pass through the gate, he will have to whisper his secret password. On Groundhog Day the first ninety-nine story-tellers are ready, waiting in ninety-nine rooms for the first visitors.

Rumpelstiltskin can't wait to go to the castle and visit one of the rooms. He's very curious about the stories. And he's exited, because at the castle nobody knows his name. When he enters the draw bridge, Greg is waiting for him. It is in the middle of the school holidays so Greg's daughter is there too, to help her father. When Rumpelstiltskin approaches the desk, father Greg says: "My name is Wunz. Is your name Kunz?"

"No" Rumpelstiltskin responds.

"Is your name Carl?"

"No"

"Are you sometimes called Rumpelstiltskin?"

Rumpelstiltskin became very angry and stamped so furiously with his right foot that it sunk into the floor.

Father Greg said: "Your name is already in the book; you can't register"

And Rumpelstiltskin became even more angry and he said: "That's impossible. Nobody knows my name and I'm not in the castle. Can't you see I'm standing here right in front of you?"

"That may be," says father Greg, "but computer says no! Have you maybe forgotten your pass word?"

"No, no. I just want to go into the castle and you say I'm already there. This can't be!"

Rumpelstiltskin is very sad and walks away. He wanted so much to hear a wonderful story in the castle. Then he hears light footsteps behind him and turning his head, tears in his eyes, he sees Greg's daughter.

"Mister Rumpelstiltskin wait! She shouts. I know how you can get into the castle."

"But computer says no…" says Rumpelstiltskin.

"There's another door. On the top at the right of this door, there's a bell. If you ring it, you simply say your name and the woman behind the door will ask for your password and then she will open the door. It's that simple" says Greg's daughter.

"Okay," says Rumpelstiltskin. "It is now too late in the day for a story. I'll try that tomorrow."

Because the whole system is haunted and in a loop, the next day is Groundhog Day all over again and the castle will again open for the first time. Because it is the same day as yesterday, everybody has forgotten what he did on Groundhog Day. Rumpelstiltskin is very exited because he has heard that at the castle there are a thousand rooms and that in these rooms are story-tellers who will tell him the most exiting stories. But today there's a big difference. Last night Greg's daughter had a brilliant idea. She thought of a way for Rumpelstiltskin to come into the castle even if his memory would fail. She had seen that Rumpelstiltskin paid special attention to a photograph of her mother that was on the wall in father Greg's office. Her mother was a beautiful princess and everyone liked her, so she wasn't surprised that Rumpelstiltskin would look at het picture. She wrote a special note and in the night, just before midnight she secretly went to Greg's office and put the special note with sticky tape over her mother's picture.

The next day was Groundhog Day and the grand opening of the castle. Rumpelstiltskin was one of the first visitors. Father Greg said: "Your name is already in the book; you can't register"

Rumpelstiltskin became angry again and he said: "That's impossible. Nobody knows my name and I'm not in the castle. Can't you see I'm standing here right in front of you?"

"That may be," says father Greg, "but computer says no! Have you maybe forgotten your pass word?"

Rumpelstiltskin looked up in desperation and looked straight at the picture on the wall. In Greg's daughter's handwriting it said: "Mister Rumpelstiltskin. Welcome to the castle. I know you are not in the castle. That would be impossible. You are right here. You simply came to the wrong entrance. Go to the other gate and press the doorbell at the top of the door. At the right hand side. Then you may enter the castle."

Rumpelstiltskin entered the castle and he found a room where two brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, were announced as the storytellers. The story was about a miller who was very poor. He had a beautiful daughter… But that's another story.
